BLUE NOTE NY SHOW JUST ANNOUNCED

I'll be performing at the great BLUE NOTE club in New York on Friday, March 2nd - joining me will be the elegantly infamous Dred Scott Trio. Advance tickets are $12, get them HERE. This is my second time playing their always-interesting Late Night Groove Series, it was one of Mudville's most memorable shows - we had great special guests: Michael Blake, Dred, and REM bassist Mike Mills on piano. We'll be doing a lot of new material, songs we'll be recording for a covers album later in the spring. Of course, songs from Little Genius and it wouldn't be Ben and Marilyn without some Mudville. We're excited about this one. Hope to see you!

All Music Guide Four-Star Review of Little Genius

Thom Jurek of All Music says "Little Genius" is "an artful set of brave, assured, electronic soul tunes, housed in skillfully executed grooves and expressed with a voice that is free of artifice in its expressions of longing, struggle, empathy, and desire." And lots more thoughtful observations I dearly appreciate. Read it on the site HERE or click READ MORE..

eBurban publishes my essay about REM

eBurban.com asked me to write something of my experience with REM for a piece they did about the legacy of the band. I was really happy to do it, and have many, many happy memories of REM shows over the years (I've seen maybe 15 shows in a half-dozen states) and my long-time friendship with bassist Mike Mills. Read it HERE or just click MORE..

Little Genius album release event at 116 MacDougal, NYC October 28th

New York's 116 MacDougal is hosting the album release event for Marilyn Carino - Little Genius. Formerly known as the Gaslight Lounge, this great venue was once a favorite performance space for Kerouac, Ginsberg, and the site of one of Bob Dylan's first-ever recorded concerts. Its recently evolved into a cool, cave-like lounge, but the walls still speak the language of troubadours and poets. 116 MacDougal website

Beautiful Lucid Culture NY review of Rockwood show

Sometimes you wish a journalist WASN'T in the crowd at your show, since all you can remember about it besides having fun was almost falling off the tiny stage, when you played the Em instead of the Am and the drunk guy who rambled on during your most tender ballad. Despite all that, this was not one of those times. Thanks so much to Lucid Culture NY and to the reviewer, delarue, for his thoughtfulness and generosity of spirit when writing about my music.. Nice Fan Video of Mudville's "The Hero of the World"

Found a fan video compiled from footage of the TV series "Regenesis", which is a dark, sexy "CSI"-type show which featured the Mudville songs "Hero of the World" and "Blown" in a couple episodes. Strikingly, they were both silent scenes, just a beautiful use of the music. This fan did a sort of montage of scenes from the show, with "Hero" as the soundtrack. Watch it HERE

Smoking pot is good

A high school friend recently mailed me some of the notes we passed between us when we were about 15. I had to print one here, coincidentally on 4/20 - one I wrote her from typing class - a rationale on why she should reconsider her plan to quit smoking pot. Click on the BLOG PAGE to indulge...Tweet
